A TESTIMONY

August, 1998 A few weeks ago, my heart went bad. I had a diagnosis of arterial fibrillation. I was in the hospital emergency twice in less than two weeks. The first time I blacked out, and was taken to the hospital emergency. I got all the treatment a heart patient gets, the machines, wires, patches, etc. The cardiologist was called in. He put me on a blood thinner and other medications. He told me, there was a 2-out-of-3 chance I would have a stroke before morning! The cardiologist came in the next morning, looked at the blood test, and checked me over. My heart was back to normal. The blood thinner was working, I could go home and continue all medication. I was warned: If there was any pain around my heart, any weakness, to get to emergency quick! He would see me in 2 weeks otherwise. I was home 3-4 days and started to bleed inside. I went back to emergency. The doctor didn't know where the blood was coming from, but they did know they couldn't stop it. The blood had to be thickened and that would take time. So they did blood test all night, like every 2 hours till the blood thickened. I was released from the hospital with warning: don't pick up a knife, don't shave your legs, don't ride in a car etc....For if I cut myself or fell and hurt myself, they could not stop the blood.I was told to stay in the house until the blood stopped. I was released from the hospital on Friday. I noticed Saturday, the blood was less. Then Sunday morning there was hardly any blood. So I said, "I'm going to church." I had to walk about 2-3 blocks, but I felt I could make it. I wore flat shoes and walked slow and I made it. I always sit in the same seat in church each Sunday, with a friend. She already knew about my heart problem and was asking me about my health, when a friend of hers stopped to say hello to her. This is when I met Becky Hitt. My friend asked me to tell Becky about my heart problem. I did. It was close to time for church services to start. Becky was going to sit in another spot. But she said to me, "I will pray for you!" (At this time I didn't know that Becky did healing prayer) I thanked her. I thought she meant she would remember me in her prayers next week. I thought what a kind nice lady she was to pray for me. I sure needed all the prayer I could get!!So I sat through the services, but began to get very tired, and little pains were all around my heart. I had been told by the doctor, that this might happen. If so, I was to get to emergency fast. I thought I was on my way. I was leaving my seat when Becky, the Prayer Lady, came and touched me on the arm. She said, "my husband Bill and I would like to pray for you." She caught me off-guard. I liked the idea of prayer very much. But I didn't know it was to be now, in the church. And too, I had this pain all around my heart like fine needles sticking in the flesh. My mind was saying, "Should I go for home and the hospital, or prayer?" I went for the prayer!! Bill & Becky prayed for me. Then Bill asked me, "How do you feel?" My mouth flew open. I said "The pain around my heart is gone!! Bill, Becky & I all said, "Praise the Lord!!" I walked home a little faster, than I had coming. I felt fine, all the next week.On Sunday, I waved to Bill & Becky that I was okay. Then the Friday of the next week I saw the cardiologist, for a follow-up visit. This would tell the story. What they would add to, take away, what medications I would take, etc. ( I did dread this visit). The nurse saw me first, she took my blood pressure. She said, "looks good." Then the doctor did what he does, checked the pulse, lungs, then moved to the front of the chest, then moved to the back. He would listen in one spot then move to another spot, move back and listen to the same spot again. (I would think he had found something). When he came around where I could see his face. There was a big smile on his face, he said "Everything is just perfect. Your heart is so in tune, I could set my watch by it." Then, he said "I'll tell you what I'm going to do. I'm going to take you off all medication, and put you on one small aspirin a day. We will try you on this, but if there's any problem, I will put you back on the other medications, but in smaller doses." I said, "Oh, no, no, the aspirin is going to be just fine. Everything will be okay!! For I am getting some very effective prayer for me at the church." The doctor looked at me and smiled. He said, "I will see you in 6 months."Praise the Lord!Ms. W.C.L.This testimony may be used as long as it is not altered or edited.

TRUE OR FALSE?

Some denominational church's leadership seems to be operating on the false premise that if it not broke, don't fix it. Yet their membership is rapidly declining.

Maybe the fct is it is broken and the leadership need to be repaced since it is beynd fixing.

WHAT ABOUT YOUR CHURCH?

I never cease to be amazed how ignorant society is about the work of the devil and his demons.

And I am even more amazed how ignorant most of the church is also.

Although a large part of Jesus' ministry was casting out demons, how many churches make it a part of their ministrry?

And they claim to be following Jesus!

tHE GREAT EXCHANGE

The GreatJohn 16:7-15 7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. 8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: 9 Of sin, cause they believe not on me; 10 Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; 11 Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged. 12 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. 13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. 14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you. 15 All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you. KJVInvitation: John 7:37-39 37 In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. 38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. 39(But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.) A Promise:John 14:16-17 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. KJVA Command: Acts 1:4-8 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me. 5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence. 6 When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel? And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power. 8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's. KJVA command:Mark 16:15-2015He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. 16Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. 17And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; .... they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well." 19After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, he was taken up into heaven and he sat at the right hand of God. 20Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it. A Promise: John 14:12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. KJVA command: James 22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. 23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: 24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. 25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deeds.

A QUESTION

I have been given to understand that the reason seminaries teach Hebrew and Greek is so their students can do their own exegesis.

Although they may only know English, I have heard Christians say "that is not what that scripture says to me".

If you search what theologians say you get a multiple choice of interpretations. However, there is a more excellent way.

At Pentecost Jesus sent the Holy Spirit, the Bible Author, our Teacher, who will give those who diligently seek His indwelling presence for the truth.

What do you think?

EVIDENCE OF BEING A BELIEVER

Mark 16:15-20 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. 17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; 18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. 19 ¶ So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God. 20 And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.

AND THAT'S AN ORDER!

Luke 11:9 And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. 10 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. 11 If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? 12 Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? 13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

Here Jesus is commanding born-again children of God to dilligently seek the Holy Spirit. So to claam we alrady have this on the basis of being a Christian is nit what is being commanded. It is something more - the baptism in the Holy Spirit

MIRACLES ARE FOR TODAY

want to thank you two (a prayer and healing classmate and I) for a wonderful experience last Sunday when you ministered healing to my back ache. I truly felt in a very real sense that Jesus reached down and touched me and I could physically feel the pain being withdrawn from my back. What a powerful thing it is to feel the touch of Jesus on you. It only has happened to me once before when I first committed my life to Christ. it was a deeply moving thing then and also was the same last Sunday. I have been humming that wonderful song "He Touched Me" by Bill Gaither, ever since. We have such a great loving and caring God. Of course, my back was healed and the pain is gone and I am grateful for that, but, even more, I am grateful for the experience of being touched by God. Thank you both for developing your gift of healing and ministering to the rest of us. May God continue to bless you in many wonderful waysBob. TTHE GREAT COMMISSION

The wquipping
Acts 1:4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me. 5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

The sending forth
6 ¶ When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel? 7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power. 8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. 9 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.

Notice that Jesus did not send them forth until they had received the power. Alas. many go forth without it. They may have some success but they have only obeyed part of the commission.

A recent estimate is that there are now six hundred million charismatics while many denominations are declining in membership.

So?

EMOTIONAL PAIN HEALED

Christians, we are aware that the Holy Scriptures instruct us that " if anyone among us is sick, let him call the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. " James 5:14. I have known this for 17 years, and have prayed for the sick and believed with all my heart that by faith God will hear our prayers, and will heal our mind, body and spirit. In spite of this, during times of my struggle with spiritual or physical pain, I seem to forget my witness to others regarding God' s healing power through the prayers and healing touch of those He calls to carry out His mission of healing the sick, and I depend on my own resources for healing. I experienced this... again...just two months ago, when I developed persistent ,severe, pain in my mid to upper back which at times, caused nausea. After three weeks of no relief with professional help, I became ill during a Sunday morning Church Service, and called upon an elder to pray for me. In a few minutes, I was reminded of a year long problem in our family, which had caused resentment, anger, and emotional stress, thus, taking its toll on my body, and resulting in spiritual confusion. Following prayer by my friend, and God's obedient servant, the pain was gone, in body and mind. I have been pain-free since. Praise God for His goodness, His promises, His healing and for sending us His obedient servants to carry on His work; and for the saving grace of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

THE BAPTISM OF FIRE

" I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire." Matthew 3:11

It appears the vital necessity of this baptism seems to be overlooked by the modern church. That it is the birthday of the church and without it there would be no church and that Christ would have died in vain.

SPEAKING IN TONGUES

reasons given why some do not want to speak in tongues:

I was not brought up tha tway.

This passed way with the early church.

It is "spooky".

I might lose control.

What would someone think?

I "have" the Holy Spirit.

What is your reason? Send comment.

Th reason the devil does not want us to speaking tongues:

It is a powerfull weapon in spiritual warefare.

He does not know what is being said.

It is objective evidence of the Christ's resurrectionand ascent to Heaven. Read John Chaters 14 ans 16.

Why Jesus wants us to have it. Luke 11:9-13

"He that speaks in an unknown tongue edifies himself.

It confirms we have been born-again,

It is an act of obedience to God.

they don't do that in our church.

I might lose contro.

It is "spiiky."

A QUESTION

Matthew 11:11Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.Matthew 11:10-12 (in Context) Matthew 11 (Whole Chapter)
Matthew 11:12

If Johh the Baptist and the Old Testaments prophets are less than the least that are in the KIngdom of God, can they still be in it?

HAD YOU CONSIDERED?

¶ When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was. 10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy. Mathew 2:9-10

The wise men never visited the manger.

The "star" was not a star since a star could not pinpoint a house.

If they came from the east the star was not in the east.

The "star" did not appear in the east at the time of Juesus' birth unless it took them two years to get to the house. It is generally believed Jesus was about two years old at the time of their visit.

There is not evidence there were only three becase there were three gifts.

A BIG QUESTION

There are those who believe and teach we receive all of the Holy Spirit when we are born-again.

There are those who teach that there is a second blessing called the baptism in the Holy Spirit.

For me - apart from my personal experience- there is a proof text where we find the answer. It is Luke 11:9-13. Here we see Christ exhorting children of God - Spirit filled believers - to ask, seek, and knock for their Heavenly Father to give them the Holy Spirit. It certainly must be something in addition to what they already have.

What do you think?

A CREATIVE IRACLE

My name is Taunya Dowell and I'm 31 years old. I would like to share my testimony with you on the Miraculous Power of my Lord Jesus Christ. When I was eleven years old, I was playing football with some boys and I was tackled. As a result, I fractured my left hip. I went through three surgeries and was in a cast from the waist down for a year and a half. My hip did not heal as the doctors had expected and over the years my left leg did not grow normally, and it ended up being one inch shorter than the right. I had MRI's done that determined the discrepancy in the length of my legs and one inch build-ups were made for all my left shoes. However, I continued to suffer from constant pain. Until one day in June, 1996. I met Hal, who shared with me his healing ministry. My faith in Jesus was strong and I believed in the Bible and what it said. And when he shared with me the miracles he had seen through the power of prayer and calling on the power of Jesus, I wanted this for myself, and believed it was possible. It was a beautiful sunny day in Coronado, CA. When I crawled out of bed that morning, I was totally unprepared for a miracle. What happened changed my life forever. But God works his wonders in mysterious ways. Hal and I were sitting outside at a restaurant when he asked me if I would like to receive prayer. I was a little shy at first since we were out in public but then I said "Let's do it". So he sat across from me and took both my ankles in his hands, with my legs stretched out, and started praying and invoking the power of the Holy Spirit in the name of Jesus and commanded my leg to grow. My left leg started getting very hot right above my knee and my bone started growing. My bone grew a whole inch right before our very eyes. I was so filled with the awesome power of the Holy Spirit I could barely think straight. I was awe-struck for hours. I had to go barefoot because my shoes were of no use any more. I've been checked out by doctors and they are at a loss for words. I has been over two years and I still don't need to have a lift in my shoe. I give all the Glory to Jesus and now I have also learned how to pray for others to be healed. Based on Mark 16;17-18, I feel we are called to pray for others for healing. Besides, it's not me nor anybody else who does the healing -- it's the power of the Holy Spirit. The Lord just needs laborers to deliver the blessing.Hal's comment:As of of now, Taunya still has her healing.
The approach Taunya refers to is taught by the Hunter's Ministery* and the one we
teach and practice . It can be observed and experienced by attending the class and using the resources we have available..

Although it required Jesus to die on the cross and be resurrected to enable us to receive the baptism in the Holy Spirit, why are there so many Christians who do not wnt it?

BELIEVE IT OR NOT

Belief is just a claim unless we act on what we profess.

James says that if we believe in God we do well. But the demons also believe and tremble.

WOMAN DELIVERED FROM NICOTINE ADDCTION

I decided to quit smoking by August 18th -- my 50th birthday. I told Hal Weeks I would be coming to his Wednesday night Prayer and Healing class at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Coronado, CA. One week led to another and pretty soon almost two years had gone by. I kept putting it off because I really did not want to quit smoking. Hal would approach me at Sunday services and ask me when I would attend his class. I always had a lame excuse, but we both knew Satan had a hold on me. In August of 1999 my daughter, Michele, announced she was expecting her first child in April 2000. Her husband, William, quit smoking in December, 1999. I decided I needed to quit so I wouldn't smell like a chimney around my new grandchild. I finally made it to Hal's class on March 22, 2000 and was healed by the Holy Spirit of my desire to smoke. It was instantaneous (as I knew it would be). The next two days I could feel the smoke being purged from my lungs. I believe that if it were visible people could have seen smoke coming out of my mouth. Thanks to the healing power of God, I have not smoked since. There were times when I wanted to smoke, but I called on God to help me and the desire was instantly gone. My daughter once asked me if I had cheated at all. I told her I couldn't because what would that say about the Holy Spirit and His Power!! Now I can smell cigarette smoke on people ten feet away and I realize I used to smell like that to other non-smokers!! The day after my healing I called Michele to share my good news. It was then she told me that she and William didn't want me around the new baby smelling of cigarette smoke, and they weren't sure how to tell me. God answered two prayers at once!! I am now a new grandma to a precious little boy, Liam Matthew, born May 1st, and I can hold him to my hearts content, God is so good. P.S. Now I have gained weight so I will be back at Hal's class on May 17th to be healed from my overeating addiction. You can be sure I won't put this off for two years!!June 11, 2000 On May 11th and June 7th I had my physical at Kaiser. The doctor told me I am a very healthy woman, He said my lung capacity was the second highest he had seen in his six years at Kaiser. PRAISE GOD! For only He could have healed me so completely from the damage I did to myself when smoking cigarettes.Ann Rebuffattee

A BIG QUESTION

Evangelism, when practiced, in the modern
church has indeed added to its numbers.

Evangelism, when it includes the signs and wonders
of the early church multiplies the numbers.

Why then are the igms and wonders not practiced?

CHRIST

To be prepared for the coming of our Lord is to be longing for it, to be looking forward to it, and to be living accordingly.Whether it is the public debt, the population explosion, the pollution of our environment, AIDS, or any other catastrophe facing our society, human effort is limited to merely slowing the trend -- not reversing it. The sin and greed that have caused these things are still present. God is long-suffering but He has foreordained a military coup when Christ returns to rule with a rod of iron.Following Christ will cost us everything, and a bill comes due each day as we take up our cross and follow Him.Without Jesus Christ man is damned if he does, and he is damned if does not. He is irrelevant. The only person whose reputation means anything is Jesus Christ. Even the Holy Spirit has elected to subordinate his reputation to that of Jesus. Then shouldn't we?

HEALING CLASS STUDENT HEALS

I want to thank you two (a prayer and healing classmate and I) for a wonderful experience last Sunday when you ministered healing to my back ache. May God continue to bless you in many wonderful ways.
Bob.

CHANGE

Any church that does not preach, teach, and employ thepower of the Holy Spirit to heal the sick, and cast out demons is short changing itself. Ywt, in short, don't they say, "Lord. you keep the change Lord since ce we don't want it and wouldn't use it anyway."

from my guestbook

I came across your website by looking up testimonies, and was really moved by what I read, and I also did a lot of forgiving and renouncing, for I am looking for God to heal me from an affliction with my blood. I received Christ as my Savior a few weeks ago and today on your website [This refers to this page] I finally got the Holy Spirit. Today I spoke words that I could not understand. It excited me so much I had tears and laughter. May God continue to bless you as well as myself. say a prayer for me! Lurleen
Another testimony I have received.
Mr. Weeks - On a video that my mom ordered from the Hunters it showed Mr.Hunter talking in tongues and I wondered whether or not my mom could speak in tongues with the Holy Spirit like Mr. Hunter. Well it turned out she could and she told me about how the Holy Spirit comes and goes through your entire body; which is the Baptism with the Holy Spirit. So she asked me if I wanted to receive the Holy Spirit and speak in tongues with the guidance of the Holy Spirit. I said "Yes." She gave me your article to read from your website on receiving this "Holy Baptism." I read it twice, read my bible and prayed about receiving the Holy Spirit. Then my mother laid her hands on me and I prayed the prayer you had listed in the article. Then my mother started to speak in tongues to start me speaking the utterances. A few seconds later I was able to speak in tongues due to the baptism with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit flowed into me and I felt a rush of happiness, while I was speaking to God in tongues. Afterwards it was like a sensation of peace flowed over me and stayed for the rest of the day. It was a really neat and wonderful experience and I know there are more to come because God is Wonderful, and Powerful I know anything is possible with my Lord. Love, Michael
An Update from Michael's Mon
Blessings Hal! I wanted to share with you a story about my son. In church yesterday he felt the Holy Spirit leading him to lay hands on a blind gentleman from our congregation. Mike went up to him and his daughter and talked with them and ask if he could lay on hands the man. The daughter said they tried everything and walked away pushing her father. Mike felt sad, I did explain to him to pray for him and send God's healing to him anyways. I also told Mike he did as his Lord commanded and that was what was important. I thought you would like to know since he received his Holy Spirit baptism from your site. You are also an inspiration to him. Joy
The baptism in the Holy Spirit and how to receive It
For an introduction to this theme see:
Holy Spirit page.It is very important to first remove anything that can be a hindrance to receiving this baptism. Therefore, you are strongly encouraged to do so. In fact, some of the bizarre manifestations that turn many off can be because they have not first been through these: "Barriers to Healing."
Also, it is vital that the seeker first becomes a Christian.
The steps can be found at: How to become a
citizen in the Kingdom of God.]
As always, we must first define our terms so what is said is clearly understood. The word "baptism" is from the Greek word "baptize," which means to immerse.
Strong's # 907 baptize (bap-tide-O); to immerse, submerge; to overwhelm (i.e. fully wet); used only (in the N. T.) of ceremonial ablution, especially (technically) of the ordinance of Christian baptism: KJV-- Baptis, baptize, wash. (DIC)Many books have been written on this subject, but this is all you need to know to receive it. For an understanding of what it means see "
to be born again".Therefore, the baptism in the Holy Spirit means to be immersed in the Holy Spirit. This immersion is distinct from being baptized in water as the sign of conversion. It is usually a subsequent event. Scripture uses other expressions that also refer to this experience. They are "being filled with the Holy Spirit," "receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit," "the Holy Spirit coming upon them," and, "the Holy Spirit being poured out upon them." Scripture also uses some of these expressions to refer to other works of the Holy Spirit. Baptism in the Holy Spirit always refers to what happened to the disciples at Pentecost. Therefore, the expression, "baptized in the Holy Spirit" will be the one used in this presentation. Also, since the word "baptize" comes from a Greek word that means to immerse, the use of the preposition "in" is consistent with that understanding. We are immersed in the Holy Spirit, not immersed by the Holy Spirit or immersed with the Holy Spirit. What is the difference between being baptized in water and being baptized in the Holy Spirit?Specifically, there are three baptisms mentioned in Scripture that apply to the believer:1 Being baptized into the body of Christ [Christ being the element] by the Holy Spirit [the Holy Spirit being the agent]. For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body -- whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free -- and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.(! Cor.12:13) (NIV)2 Being baptized in water [water being the element] by the minister [the minister being the agent].3 Being baptized in the Holy Spirit [the Holy Spirit being the element] by Jesus Christ [Christ being the agent].
[John the Baptist] indeed baptize you with water to repentance: but he that comes after me [Jesus Christ] is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you in the Holy Ghost, and with fire: (Matthew 3:11)
Being baptized in water is done by the minister. The candidate is baptized [immersed] in the element of water. This usually occurs shortly after conversion. It is to be born again. Being baptized in the Holy Spirit can occur at any time after being born again. It is done by Jesus Christ since He is the Baptizer in the Holy Spirit. The "element" in which we are baptized, in this case, is the Holy Spirit.
But don't we receive the Holy Spirit when we are born again?Yes, everyone who is born of God, becomes a temple of the Holy Spirit, and the Holy Spirit takes up residence in their spirit. The baptism in the Holy Spirit is when He overflows into our soul and body. .
Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own. (1 Corinthians 6:19)But you are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if any man does not have the Spirit of Christ he is none of his. (Romans 8:9) (NIV)
Then what is the difference? In the first case, we are filled with the Holy Spirit. We become a "well of living water." In the second case, we are filled to overflowing, and become "rivers of living water." These rivers of living water generate the power and boldness we need to carry out God's purpose for us.
But whosoever drinks of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of [living] water springing up into everlasting life. John 4:14)
In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come to me, and drink. He that believes on me, as the Scripture has said, out of his innermost being shall flow rivers of living water. [But this spoke he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Spirit was not yet given; because Jesus was not yet glorified [ascended to Heaven]. (John 7:37-39)
Why was it necessary for Jesus to ascend to Heaven before the believer could receive the baptism in the Holy Spirit?Until Jesus had shed His blood on the cross and had ascended to Heaven, the Holy Spirit could not indwell us as temples. First, we as a temple of the Holy Spirit needed to be sanctified by the blood of Jesus.
Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send him to you. (John 16:7)
What? Know you not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which you have of God, and you are not your own? For you are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's. (I Corinthians 6:19-20) (KJV)
Why do we need the baptism in the Holy Spirit?Christ is our example. Before Jesus himself could begin His earthly ministry, He had to be baptized in the Holy Spirit. Before the disciples could begin their ministry apart from Christ, they had to be baptized in the Holy Spirit. This is what happened on the day of Pentecost. Should we then think it strange that we also need this baptism for ministry? In reality, Scripture says we will be called upon to do even greater works than Jesus.
Verily, verily, I say to you, He that believes on me, the works that I do shall He do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go to my Father. (John 14:12) (KJV)But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.Notice that they are told to receive power and then be Christ's witnesses to all the world.
But can't we witness to others without the baptism in the Holy Spirit?Yes, and there are many in ministry who do not profess to having been baptized in the Holy Spirit. Some even teach against it. Also, there are some who privately profess to being baptized in the Holy Spirit and speaking in tongues but have never publicly acknowledged it. Nevertheless, it is God's provision for equipping us to carry out what He commissions us to do. Christ commanded His disciples to remain in Jerusalem until they had received this. Scripture confirms that they were much more effective after their experience on Pentecost than they were before. Also, there are a multitude of Christians today who acknowledge they were unable to witness, at least effectively, until they had been baptized in the Holy Spirit.
And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, says he, you have heard of me. For John truly baptized with water; but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days hence...But you shall receive power, after that the Holy Spirit is come upon you: and you shall be witnesses to me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and to the uttermost part of the earth. (Acts 1:4-6,8)
But do we need to speak in tongues? No. It is possible to be baptized in the Holy Spirit without the release of the gift of tongues. It is not a question of do I need to, but do I get to! The basic question is, "Do I trust God?" Speaking in tongues is the Scriptural objective evidence of having received this power. By definition, evidence means that it is something that can be seen and heard by others. The subjective evidences which are those we can't see are many. These can be personally overwhelming, though they may or may not be noticeable to others. What good does it do for me to speak in a language I do not understand?First, This becomes available to us when we receive the baptism in the Holy Spirit, and the Holy Spirit wants us to have it! If we trust Him that should be reason enough. However, because God can only reach the heart of most of us by way of our intellect, the following is offered: Tongues is also called a prayer language. Since this prayer language is given to us by the Holy Spirit, it makes it possible to pray perfectly. Because we don't know what we are praying, our intellect is bypassed. So this kind of prayer is never hindered by our ignorance, doubts, fears, unbelief, and human reasoning.
For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God. Indeed, no one understands him; he utters mysteries with his spirit. There are times when, as the Scripture says, we do not know how to pray. Praying in the spirit [tongues] solves this problem.(1 Cor. 14:2)In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God's will. We are in spiritual warfare. The devil cannot decipher praying in tongues. Thus, we can pray to God in a secret code. (Romans 8:26-27)In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints. Praying in the spirit [tongues] edifies us [build or charges us up spiritually]. (Eph. 6:16-18)He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church.(1 Corinthians 14:4)
But how do I know that tongues are not from the devil? Not so much anymore, but some still teach that speaking in tongues is from the devil. The answer is simple! If we go to the right place, we get the right thing. If we go to a bank, we will not get counterfeit money. If we go to Jesus, we will receive the genuine; We will not receive the counterfeit.
And I say to you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you. For everyone that asks receives; and he that seeks finds; and to him that knocks it shall be opened. If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? Or if he asks a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him? (Luke 11:9-13)
This passage clearly confirms that the giving of the Holy is a distinct and separate baptism after we are born-again. This should refute the claim of those who say it is received when we were saved. That this "giving of the Holy Spirit" refers to the baptism in the Holy Spirit and not conversion is confirmed, because God refers to Himself as our Heavenly Father. This baptism in the Holy Spirit is only available to God's children. For reference books on speaking in tongues, see
our bookshelf. But don't some become very emotional and "fanatical" after receiving the baptism in the Holy Spirit?Yes, some who have been baptized in the Holy Spirit, are not good witnesses, at least at first. Consider what God requires. We must be thirsty, trusting in our relationship with God, receptive, willing, and obedient. Fortunately for most of us, God does not also require that we be emotionally stable or mature. If we feel some are poor witnesses for God's gifts, we should seek the gifts out of obedience to God. Then we can be the good witnesses.
What are some of the subjective evidences of having been baptized in the Holy Spirit?A common discovery is that, since the Author now dwells in them, the Bible suddenly comes alive to them. They understand it in a way they never did before. They find ourselves with a new boldness to tell others what Jesus Christ means to them. They see and experience, more and more, the manifestation of the spiritual gifts. They not only have a new boldness to witness, but they have a lot more to witness about! In time, and as they mature, they start bearing the fruits of the spirit.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. (Galatians 5:22-23)
But can't I experience the same things without the baptism in the Holy Spirit?Yes, if we are born again, we can witness to what we have received, but few have the boldness to do so. But the more we have received, the more we have to show and tell. But to carry out what the Holy Spirit directs us to do, we need all the resources that has made available to us through Him.Then how do I receive this baptism in the Holy Spirit?First, we must be born again and believe what the Scriptures say about it.. This is an absolute prerequisite. Then the baptism in the Holy Spirit becomes available. The Scriptures give us the basic approach, but we must experience it personally. That is, be thirsty, go to Jesus, who is the Baptizer, and drink.
In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come to me, and drink. He that believes on me, as the Scripture has said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. But this spoke he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified .(John 7:37-39)
A prayer based on this text that can be used is this:
"Dear Jesus, I am thirsty! I want to do what you want me to do, be what you want me to be, and go where you want me to go. So I come to Lord, as the baptizer in the Holy Spirit so out of my innermost being will flow rivers of living water. I want to be a channel of the power of the Holy Spirit. Thank you, Jesus."
Are there hindrance or barriers to me receiving this baptism?Yes. Fear, pride, lack of trust in God, reluctance to surrender control of everything to the Holy Spirit, not being willing to risk embarrassment, holding unforgiveness, and holding unconfessed sin in our lives are all hindrances. If you have difficulty receiving, remember God wants you to have it. If you ask Him, The Holy Spirit will reveal anything that is hindering you, provided you are honest and receptive. Some have said, "If God wants me to have it, he will give it to me." True, He does want you to have it, but you must thirst for it, go to Jesus to get it, and drink it in. Remember, you did not receive your salvation with that approach.Specifically, what do I doDifferent groups have some individuality in the methods they employ for receiving the baptism in the Holy Spirit. For some, listening to two teaching tapes, "How to Receive the Holy Spirit," and, "How to Exercise Vocal Gifts"
by Derek Prince, has been successful. Praying, with the laying-on-of-hands, is a common way, and is Scriptural. This is especially true when done by someone who has the baptism in the Holy Spirit. What about this business of speaking in tongues? Although, it is possible to receive the baptism in the Holy Spirit without the manifestation of speaking in tongue, it is a gift from Jesus who wants you to have it. All languages are made up of a series of syllables. Tongues is also made up of a series of syllables. The syllables will come to your mind as thoughts but will require you to utter them. You may receive this prayer language spontaneously or it may require some practice, like learning to whistle. In any case, God wants you to have it and the devil doesn't. Don't let the enemy deceive you into believing it is not for your it is not for today. There is no Scriptural basis why everyone can't receive it. Although there is no reason you can't receive it on your own, it may be useful to have some spirit-filled person pray for you.
When the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them. When they arrived, they prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit, because the Holy Spirit had not yet come upon any of them; they had simply been baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus. Then Peter and John placed their hands on them, and they received [the baptism in] the Holy Spirit. When Simon saw that the Spirit was given at the laying on of the apostles' hands, he offered them money and said, "Give me also this ability so that everyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit." (Acts 8:14-19)While Apollos was at Corinth, Paul took the road through the interior and arrived at Ephesus. There he found some disciples and asked them, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?" They answered, "No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit." So Paul asked, "Then what baptism did you receive?" "John's baptism," they replied. Paul said, "John's baptism was a baptism of repentance. He told the people to believe in the one coming after him, that is, in Jesus." O hearing this, they were baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus. When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied. (Acts 19: 1-6)
What if nothing seems to happen?Scripture says that when we receive it, we receive it by faith. That is, by trusting God. Experience teaches us there may be a need to persist until we receive it. Again, possibly there may be some hindrances we must deal with first. But, if we are diligent, we will receive it. It seems, also, that those who persevere in the face of apparent initial failure, receive a greater measure when they do receive.
So I say to you, Ask and keep on asking, and it shall be given you; seek and keep on seeking, and you shall find; knock and keep on knocking, and the door shall be opened to you. For everyone who asks and keeps on asking receives, and he who seeks and keeps on seeking finds, and to him who knocks and keeps on knocking the door shall be opened. What father among you, if his son asks for a loaf of bread, will give him a stone; or if he asks for a fish, will instead of a fish give him a serpent; Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, evil-minded as you are, know how to give good gifts -- gifts that are to their advantage -- to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask and continued to ask Him! (Luke 11:9-13 )(Amp)Note: There can be
barriers to receiving that need to be addressed first.
Suggested prayer for receiving the baptism in the Holy Spirit.Note: Before saying this prayer be sure you have accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior.
See the how to page.Dear Lord Jesus. I am thirsty. I want to go your way and do your thing and have the boldness and the power to do it. Thererfore, I come to you as the Baptizer in the Holy Spirit. In obedience to your Word, I ask You to empower me to do my part in carrying out the Great Commission. I believe you provide us with all that you require of us if we will open ourselves to all that you have for us and simply receive. Therefore, I, by an act of my will, and in obedience to your word, present myself as a living sacrifice, wholly and acceptable to you, which is my reasonable service. I ask you, Lord Jesus, to baptize me in the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in other tongues as the Holy Spirit gives me the utterance. I receive it by faith! That is, by a complete and total trust in You. Amen.Since we are always in control of this gift of speaking in a language that we have never learned, we must do the actual speaking. Therefore, we must lift our voice to express the syllable sounds that come to our mind. Like learning to whistle, it may take some practice. Just started speaking any syllables that come into their mind. Initially, it may only be a few words, but with use, you will become more articulate. If you want it so badly you can taste it, our Heavenly Father will bless you beyond your wildest expectations! You might even get a little emotional! You can be sure the devil does not want you to have such a powerful weapon that you can use against him. He will put the thought in your mind that you are doing this. He will accuse you of doing it yourselves. Your reply is, "Yes, devil, I am doing the speaking myself, but it is the Holy Spirit who is giving me the words!" It may help to think of a language as a series of syllables and what will come into your thoughts will therefore be syllables. You may wonder if they are genuine but practice uttering them. With practice this often leads to getting the real thing.
There is an excellent book that might prove helpful on
my Bookshelf.

CANCER OF THE BONE HEALED

It is not by accident that you are reading this story. I am so excited to tell you about God who loves us and is in charge of everything, the big things and the little things too I am a 56 year old high school teacher. Ten years ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I underwent surgery, radiation and chemotherapy. For eight years I was cancer free. One day in the fall of 2002 I had difficulty stepping on my right leg. After several doctors and tests I was told that the same cancer now metastasized to my bones, mainly my spine. Rapidly my health deteriorated to stage IV cancer and I thought I was going to die. My blood test would normally read 40 but it was 1,500.I was devastated. I have just learned how to walk closer with God. I have just prayed the Jabez Prayer, how could this happen? I cried out to God and asked for His grace and mercy. I asked Him to extend my life. I knew if I died I would spend eternity with Him but I wanted to walk with Him on this side of heaven for a longer time. He answered my prayer. I don't know where or from whom, but I got Psalm 118:17 as a verse to claim. I was shocked by it's boldness the first time I read it. "I will not die but live, and will proclaim what the Lord has done."It was not an instantaneous healing but by the grace of God I taught full time last year and I am going back to teach again this year. There were some hard days and some glorious days. My friends took me to the Santa Maria healing room where I learned that Jesus died not only to redeem me from my sins but from my illness too. Jesus died to restore all of me, my body, soul and spirit. On another occasion in 2004, Bill Hitt* prayed to deliver me from a terrible back pain. That was an instant healing. I can hardly remember what the pain felt like.In conclusion, I just want to tell you that God is a loving, awesome God who gives good things to his children. I claim his promises daily and walk with him one day at a time.God bless you,Marta Williams
* Bill Hitt was a student who learned about healing from our
healing class and is not an ordained minister in the Methodist church. See Bill Hitt

UNANSWERED PRAYER

Consider if we may be falsly assuming the ball is in God's court.
For example, asking for His help when we are not doing what we need help in doing.

TRUE OR FALSE?

There are those who think the Charismatics have gone over the edge.
And indeed they have--the edge of their comfort zone and now have the Comfroter.

LOVE THY NEIGHHBOR

Tradilanal churches regulaly remind us to love thy neighbor, but does the include leding them to Christ, baptizing them in the Holy Spirit. healing their sickness and castong out demons?praying for the sick, and casting out demons?

TESTIMONIES

If you are looking for a Holy Spirit filled church, go where they are twstif;ying to ot.It i
s not found in ritual or tradial churches.

They may lusttily sing "Trust and Obey" but in practice it is "no way"/

REPENTANCE IN THE MODEREN CHURCH

Repentance?

THE HOLY SPIRIT BAPTISM

is being obedience to Jesus
is proof of the resurrection
is the power to carry out the Great Commission
is going from knowing about Christ to knowing Christ
it is going from the natural to the supernatural
It is being able to cast out demons
It is having proof of being born again
It is being able to speak in tongues
It is a being able to ove neighbors more effectively
it is being able to heal the sick
it is to follow Christ’s example
it is to follow the disciples example
yet it is not popular in the denominational churches

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Sermons that are seasoned to suit the tastes of the hearers raises the question of who cooked them up.

WHERE'S THE BEEF?

It is the baptism in the Holy Spirit!
It is where we get beefed up to do the Lords's work and get a stake in the supernatural.
Sadly. too many Christians are spiritual vegetarians.

cast out demons!

What follows is a transcript of an internet dialog I had with a seventeen your old male from Trinidad/Tobago Island in the Caribbean who used the nickname of Lucifer 666.

What had occurred prior was that I encountered him through a chat program on the internet. Initially, he was abusive and offensive. Suspecting I was dealing with a demon I began counterattacking and commanding the demon to leave him.

In our next internet exchange he began to switch from attacking my story to asking me questions. Next, he asked for my permission to add my name to his contact list.

Finally, I told him that God loved him. The next day I received the following: He had changed his name from Lucifer666 to Repent-Tri.
Repent-TriHey, believe this! Some of the things you said to me had an affect, dude......now I am more open...thanks....Oh, your website is really good.
HalThank you for making my day. I suggest your explore my website since it reveals a part of what I have learned in the past twenty five years of living and experiencing. Have a good day. God love you.

Repent-TriI know He loves me now, because I asked Him "Lord, do you love me?" and you know what happened? He said, "I died for you." Now that is love!
Hal - laterHow are you doing?
Repent-TriHey man! I am doing really great since I opened up to the man above.
HalWhat have you noticed that is different?

Repent-TriMy total view of life. Life now really seems like a calm ocean
Hal I didn't get a history of our chatting since you weren't on my contact list yet. However, I would like to share your story with my Bible class. Will you give me a little history of your background and a "before and after" of your change? What name by which I can address you?
Repent-Tri.You can call me "Repent".

HalHi Repent! Have you considered sending me the story of what happened to you so I can share it with my Bible class? I surely would appreciate it.
RepentI would most definitely but not right now. You could just start by saying even that non-believers can experience the hand of God. Well, I will try to send it to you by Monday.
HalI look forward to it. Be as detailed as you wish since the details add to the impact.
RepentWell, my story is simple. I was a rebel...a total anti-everything. I lived without a care in the world, as though nothing mattered to me. I lived this life for about three years......then one day I met you. I tried in every way to corrupt you and make you believe that God does not do much for us. However, the next day I woke up a different man. I suddenly started to see that all this time the devil had control over me. I think the Lord sent you to me to show me that I was leading a life that was going nowhere. I thank you for that. I wish you a ling and happy life, and continue to spread God's word PEACE, LOVE, EMPATHY!!!
HalThank you for that wonderful encouragement . Do you now consider yourself to be a Christian?

Repent Honestly, I now consider myself a son of God.
HalMay I suggest you find a church that will help you grow in your new found faith?
RepentI live very far from you.
Hal But surely they have churches where you live.
RepentI am attending an Advent college. I can join in with them. HalAs of this time I have had no further contact with him. What this taught me is that I can cast out a demon far away without the person even knowing I am doing it!: * * * * * * *For how I learned to do this go to the
healing classroom.
